Preventative Care
Brushing and Flossing: Because controlling bacteria levels in the mouth is the key to minimizing tooth decay and gum disease, proper technique of brushing and flossing your teeth is the best defense. Our team members will review with you the best brushing and flossing techniques specifically for you, and modify your home care to make it most effective between your visits to our office.
Sealants: These are plastic coatings of an unfilled resin material that gets flowed into the pits and grooves of the biting surfaces the teeth. This minimizes plaque build-up in these harder to reach areas and minimizes the risk to decay. Sealants, however, are an adjunct to regular brushing and flossing, not a replacement for them.
Flouride: Fluoride helps kill the bacteria that causes tooth decay in addition to making the teeth stronger by enhancing the remineralization process. In our office we use a fluoride varnish that gets painted onto the teeth as opposed to fluoride gels and foams. The literature indicates that the varnish we use in the office has greater fluoride uptake into the tooth and lasts longer on the tooth making it more effective.
